Ramsgate is a quaint little village just south of Margate on the KZN south coast. With its strong focus on preserving the environment, the whale deck, the Marine Ramble and the Blue Flag beach, Ramsgate is a little treasure that has claimed many hearts.
The smallest of our villages, Ramsgate Retirement Village is a picturesque village that shares many of the facilities of its neighbour in Margate, just a few km away.
Village Overview
Situated in Ramsgate, a pristine coastal town that boasts one of the finest blue flag beaches on the coast, Ramsgate Retirement Village is the smallest of the three villages. It houses 61 face brick cottages, each with their own private garden.
Whilst residents of the Ramsgate Village enjoy a number of high quality on-site amenities, the village’s close proximity to the Margate Village means that residents get to enjoy all the facilities of the Margate Village too. Any sport, medical and cultural activities and services that are not available on-site in the Ramsgate Village are available at the Margate Village and the courtesy bus travels between each village daily.
Built in 1989 by the town board, it was officially acquired by HRV in 1995 and has flourished ever since.

The Ramsgate Retirement Village has 1 and 2 bedroom cottages. All cottages are sold on the “Life Right” basis.
One Bedroom Cottages
There are 4 one bedroom cottages in the Ramsgate Retirement Village. These units are available with one bathroom.

The Ramsgate Village shares most amenities and facilities with The Margate Village. Ramsgate Village does have its own community centre and clubhouse, mini library, gym and pool room. Ramsgate Village also offers a number of activities and events.

Ramsgate is a picturesque seaside village on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, at the mouth of a the Bilanhlolo River. In Zulu, Bilanhlolo means amazing or marvellous boiler – a reference to the strong currents which give the river its characteristic ‘boiling’ appearance. The town is named after the original farmstead in the area – Ramsgate; itself named for the popular seaside holiday town in Kent, England.
Ramsgate Beach is a Blue Flag Beach – one of only eight such beaches in KwaZulu-Natal. A Blue Flag is an award given to beaches which meet the stringent criteria of the International Blue Flag Campaign, managed in South Africa by the Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa (WESSA). Blue Flag status assures you that beaches are clean, safe and environmentally friendly. A 6km beach walk – the Ramsgate Marine Ramble – links the many coves and beaches of the greater area, from Southbroom in the South to Margate in the North.
