The Waiting List
To be in line for a cottage in our villages, you need to be on one of our waiting lists. Due to demand for cottages in our villages, we have strictly managed waiting lists, so it is worthwhile to get your name down as soon as possible should you wish to join our family.
We have two formal waiting lists, one for the Margate and Ramsgate Retirement Villages. The second is for Umdoni Retirement Village. At this stage there is no waiting list for Widenham Retirement Village as this is a new village and Life Rights for cottages may be bought “off-plan”, so here is your chance to get in early!
To join a waiting list a prospective resident applies for Life or Ordinary membership of the Society and for joining the waiting list. Both the Society membership and the waiting list have a subscription fee. Subscriptions for Society Membership and Waiting List fees can be paid annually or a once off Life Time Membership and Waiting List fee may be paid.
The waiting list member must become the Occupier listed in the Life Right Agreement with the Society and waiting list members may not cede their position on the waiting list to another person. Our waiting list members receive our newsletter four times a year and the Society Annual Financial Statements and are entitled to attend the Society AGM.
It is never too early to join the list… get your name down sooner rather than later… when you are ready to make your retirement choice you won’t be sorry!
Accepting a home
When units become available waiting list members are contacted strictly in line with their waiting list position to discuss interest in such available cottages. The waiting list position moves in line with movement on the waiting list and the relative position is not forfeited if the offer of a unit is declined.
To streamline this process, waiting list members may specify preferences e.g. the number of bedrooms that they would be interested in, and would only be contacted when such cottage/s become available.
If there is interest in the cottage/s offered, we then send more information, arrange viewings, etc. If there is no interest in the offered cottage or we cannot reach the relevant member within a couple of days, we move onto the next in line on the waiting list.
