The Waiting List
Choosing the right retirement village is an important decision, and joining our waiting list is the best way to ensure you can secure your ideal cottage or apartment in the village of your choice when the time is right. There is no obligation - being on the waiting list simply gives you priority access when you’re ready to make your move.
Our waiting lists:
- South List: Margate, Ramsgate and Widenham Villages
- North List: Umdoni and Widenham Villages
There is no waiting list for new development phases at Widenham Retirement Village. Life Rights for these cottages are available off-plan, allowing you to secure your home in advance.
How to join:
To be added to a waiting list, you will need to apply for either Life Membership or Ordinary Membership of the Society, as well as register for the waiting list. Both membership and registration require a subscription fee, payable annually or as a once-off lifetime fee.
Important to note:
- The person registered on the waiting list must be the intended occupant under the Life Right Agreement.
- Waiting list positions are not transferable.
- Members receive the Society’s Annual Financial Statements and are welcome to attend the AGM.
Planning ahead offers peace of mind. By registering early, you can be confident that when the time comes to make your retirement decision, your place is already secured.
Accepting a home
When units become available waiting list members are contacted strictly in line with their waiting list position to discuss interest in such available cottages. The waiting list position moves in line with movement on the waiting list and the relative position is not forfeited if the offer of a unit is declined.
To streamline this process, waiting list members may specify preferences e.g. the number of bedrooms that they would be interested in, and would only be contacted when such cottage/s become available.
If there is interest in the cottage/s offered, we then send more information, arrange viewings, etc. If there is no interest in the offered cottage or we cannot reach the relevant member within a couple of days, we move onto the next in line on the waiting list.
