With a huge variety of social activities available to residents, HRV’s social scene is a vibrant one. You choose what you would like to do and when, all the village does is provide options with a wide range of different amenities and activities designed to suit everyone.
Chess clubs, art clubs, music groups, yoga classes, quilters, bridge players, golf players, tennis tournaments, bowling clubs, gardening projects and plays are regularly organized by committees within the villages. Many of the village clubs have built strong relationships with the town communities and actively participate in community projects.

The community of the Hibiscus Retirement Villages is something that cannot be over-stated. Informal social gatherings are always taking place within the community Centre and Lounge.
Indulge in a game of bridge, chess, rummikub or bingo and test your skills against your fellow residents. Or if that is not your preference, try your hand at some snooker or table tennis.
Pamper yourself with a trip to the in-house Hair & Beauty Salon and then polish your moves with a dance class.
Take some time out and spend some quiet time in the library, church or with a restorative yoga class. Convenience, accessibility and community are inherent in all the in-house facilities available on your doorstep.
Other indoor activities
Along with the community dining hall, both the Margate and Umdoni Village each have their own coffee shop. The Linga Longa Coffee Shop in Umdoni and the Munro Café in Margate cater for both residents and visitors alike. With a delicious range of sweets, cakes and light meals, they have become popular meeting places and hang outs.
Whether it is quilting, pottery, painting or photography you are interested in, there is a club or activity for you. Many of our residents have only discovered their artistic talent once given the time and opportunity at the village.

Relax and unwind while taking a walk along one of the trails within the grounds and take in the diverse bird and plant life. Or read a book on a park bench under the shade of an Umdoni Tree.
Enjoy a delicious meal on the deck of the restaurant and relish in the convenience of shopping within the grounds or take a shuttle to a nearby restaurant or shopping mall.
For the sporting enthusiasts, take part in a game of bowls, tennis or badminton or join one of the golf or fishing groups and plan a fruitful outing.

Other outdoor activities
The Margate Retirement Village’s two green bowling club has just undergone a major refurbishment with new greens laid and the clubhouse extended. Extra ablution facilities were added and the club was given a modern facelift.
Umdoni Retirement Village has a very successful two-green bowling club known as the Alexandra Memorial Bowling Club. A number of district champions have come from the club.
The residents of each village are encouraged to develop and maintain their gardens as they wish. Many keen gardeners get together to share their expertise and achievements. All the gardens are beautifully maintained and are a point of pride for the Hibiscus Retirement Villages.

The Margate Village and Umdoni each have a large swimming pool with pool-side loungers
The courtesy bus travels between the villages and the local shops and attractions. Planned excursions are often highly anticipated and well-attended
Badminton and Jukskei are two very popular outdoor sports that are enjoyed by our residents
Visitor monitoring, electrified perimeters, cctv cameras and a 24 hour manned gate at each village entrance are just a few of the security measures HRV has taken to provide residents with the safest home possible.
The highly trained, courteous security staff manning the gates and patrolling the estate ensure any potential intrusions are detected. At HRV we are 100% committed to prevent crime, not react to it.
In the unlikely event of any resident being in distress a member of the security team may be dispatched to inspect the resident’s premises. All units are fitted with a panic button to ensure help is never far away and always on hand when it is needed.
The Village Bus provides transport to local shopping malls, hospitals and specialist clinics. Scheduled trips to local attractions and events are always eagerly anticipated and supported.
